Our paediatric anaesthetists provide specialist anaesthetic care for newborns, infants, children and adolescents, combining advanced paediatric training with extensive experience across Melbourne’s major children’s and tertiary hospitals.
Our team has undertaken dedicated paediatric anaesthesia training and fellowships, including experience at leading paediatric centres such as the Royal Children’s Hospital and Monash Children’s Hospital. This specialist experience enables us to provide anaesthetic care across the full spectrum of paediatric surgery and medical procedures from straightforward day-stay procedures through to complex surgery in medically vulnerable children. Neonatal & Complex Care
Newborns, young infants and children with complex medical needs require an additional level of specialist expertise. Our anaesthetists are experienced in caring for these patients, including those with complex congenital and medical conditions or previous surgical and anaesthetic histories.
Our tertiary-level experience gives us an understanding of the particular challenges of neonatal anaesthesia. These include airway management, temperature regulation, fluid balance, cardiovascular and respiratory physiology, and postoperative care.
For children with increased anaesthetic risk, we develop individualised perioperative plans with the child’s treating specialists. We work closely with paediatric surgeons, neonatologists, paediatricians, intensivists, nursing teams and the wider multidisciplinary team before, during and after surgery.
